Agnes is in a complicated realtionship - with meat!!

So my sister just woke up one day and decided that her relationship with meat is over, and it has been 2 months and she has not had a relapse, not even once.......if that’s not serious WILL power...i don’t know what is

But why can't I, a die-hard vegetarian wanna, seem to not get it right, I’ve drafted plans, changed my menu, bought meatless groceries, I’ve set targets, but my taste buds always find their the nearest chisa nyama :). I have tried everything in my power to 'wean' off meat, but alas, i had spaghetti and MINCE just the other day :( and this morning I took the chicken out of the freezer for supper - ##I can almost see the roast....ahahhhaha

Maybe I am not ready, many I am really addicted to meat, maybe I am just being rebellious *typical me* mara whatever it is, I need to get to the bottom of it...... soon

Until then, I will continue eating meat, with guilt the size of the Atlantic ocean ----

Hi..my name is Agnes and I’m a vegetarian wanna be…

I have been reading up on Vegetarian lifestyle and the many types of Vegetarianism, there are soo many people out there who are vegetarian and more and more parents are raising Vegetarian kids, even the state/government is encouraging people to eat less meat for environmental reasons.

What has stood out for me is that eating meat (as we are now) is causing so many problems (poverty, health issues and global warming) for the human race, yet we continue eating meat. Could it be that we are not AWARE of the effects? or we are aware, but not prepared to give up out meat addiction?

It is unbelievable the amount of money, time, food (grain), land and water it takes just to produce 1kg of a ‘juicy steak’, it is more than the amount it takes to produce 1kg of grain. The fact that we are spending so much food, water, money and land to feed animals (livestock), a lot of animals at that, just to support our carnivorous lifestyle, yet Millions of people around the world go to sleep hungry and many die of hunger, and we can't feed them because we have to feed the cows so that WE can have burger.

It is for this reason that I've declared every Monday a meat-free day, i shall never eat meat on any Monday for as long as i live!!!

Meat FREE..

Yesterday was the first of many meat free days!! Yippie. I am soo excited that I pulled it off , even though there are days where I have had no meat at all, this was the first day that I consciously excluded meat from my diet.

So what’s next…..another meatless day…I want to make 2 days a week totally vegetarian…… then 4 days by the beginning of July…baaaabby steps!!

I have been reading about vegetarianism, and I discovered a very weird fact last night. Vegetable have (a) consciousness, my eyes went wide OPEN. Ok let me lay it down for you…..Harvesting is also considered as killing, like you kill a chicken for roast, you also kill vegetables, you destroy their energy or something like that……I’m not sure if I’m making sense or not. But I’m not too concerned about that for NOW….cause I don’t think I’m at point where I’ll look at a lettuce leave or potatoes and then worry that I've hurt its feelings… because that is just insane,totally... for NOW!!

Stick around for more on my journey becoming a vegetable MANIAC!!

VEGE......WHAT??

That’s me and meat.......quite a bond we HAD

I believe that you can either accept your life as it is, or you can pursue a better life, the life that God has planned for US (Jeremiah 29:11), and that cannot happen unless you are prepared to CHANGE.

So....in order for me to break the mould, forget about the norm and chase after this 'better life' I have planned a few crazy stunts for 2010….. And yep I will share my experiences with you all. It is all in the name of fun and paradigm shifting…let's call it extraordinary FUN!!!

Stunt # 1 – Go vegetarian (don’t be soo shocked, it is possible...i think)I’ve always wanted to go vegetarian for health and spiritual reasons, I have just never got the guts to do it….i have decided that I’m gonna try it for a week, then a month, then….we will have to see how long I can resist Mac D’s chicken foldover and Nando’s and BBQ chicken flavoured pizza.

I could go on and on about how meat is bad for us, and the cruelty with which this animal are treated and then killed just so WE could have a nice feast, and how long it takes for meat to be digested in our system and what that does to our immune system, and I could tell you about the body scent that meat gives us.....and why we should all go vegetarian and even as far as go completely Vegan...BUT I’m not on a mission to convert anyone to vegetarianism, I am not even sure that I can pull it off.let's just hope that I don't get invited to braais or parties until I am strong enough to say NO to meat!!

Wish me luck...I need it :)
